I got this Patek Philippe Calatrava 5227G-010, you know, the remake one, and I gotta tell you, it’s something else. I’ve been messing around with watches for a while now, and this one, it’s a whole different ball game.
So, first thing, I got my hands on the original design docs. Not the easiest thing to find, but I managed. Then, I started collecting the parts. This took a while, let me tell you. It’s not like you can just walk into a store and buy this stuff.
The case, it’s 39 mm, and it’s not too thick, just about 9.24 mm. I measured it myself like ten times, just to be sure. I started by shaping the case. Took me a couple of tries to get it right, but I got there.
- Sourcing the right materials, that was a pain.
- Then, cutting them to the right size, not fun.
- And then polishing it all up, that’s where the magic happens.
Next, the movement. This is where things got really tricky. I spent days just figuring out how it all went together. I had to remake some of the smaller parts, cause you just can’t find them anywhere. Tiny screws and gears, man, they’re a nightmare to work with.
I assembled it all, piece by piece. Felt like I was putting together a puzzle, but way more complicated. I kept checking the original Patek Philippe Calatrava, the one from back in 1839, and the later one from 1932, just to make sure I was on the right track. Lots of back and forth, you know?
Putting it all together
Finally, after what felt like forever, I got it all working. Seeing those hands move, that was a great moment. I tested it for days, making sure it kept time right. I mean, it’s a Patek Philippe, even a remake, it’s gotta be perfect, right?
This whole thing, it was a crazy ride. But I learned so much. And now, I have this beautiful Patek Philippe Calatrava 5227G-010 on my wrist. It’s not the original, sure, but it’s mine. And I made it with my own two hands. That’s why, the Patek Philippe Calatrava 5227G-010 price is nuts. But if you’re into that kind of thing, it’s totally worth it. Now that I made my own, I think it’s worth it too. Maybe I’ll sell it for a premium, who knows.
