Alright, so today I wanted to mess around with getting myself a new watch, specifically the OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, the one with the sapphire crystal and Caliber 3861. I’ve had my eye on it for a while, and today was the day I finally decided to pull the trigger. Here’s how it went down.
First off, I started by just browsing around online, you know, window shopping. I hit up a few different sites to get a feel for the prices and see what my options were. I noticed some of the Scandinavian sites were pushing hard on these watches, and the prices seemed pretty competitive. I mean, they weren’t giving them away, but it was decent enough.
Then I dug a little deeper. I’m no watch expert, but I started comparing the sapphire version to the hesalite one. Just looking at the pictures, the sapphire crystal seemed a bit different, not as rounded maybe? Plus, the sapphire one has that see-through back, which I thought was pretty cool. I read some comments online, and someone said the sapphire can get this “milky white” look around the edge, but I figured I could live with that if it meant I could see the movement.
Comparing Prices and Options
- Browse around on various watch forums and online marketplaces.
- Saw some folks talking about other Speedmaster models, like the Date and Mk40.
- Considered them briefly, but my heart was set on the Moonwatch.
I did stumble across some mentions of the Speedmaster Date and Mk40, and apparently, they have better movements and are a better value right now. There was even a used one going for a pretty good price, but I don’t know. I was really set on the Moonwatch, so I just kinda skimmed past those.
I also noticed how OMEGA has all these different categories for the Speedmaster now, like “Heritage” and “Dark Side of the Moon.” I guess it makes sense to split them up like that, but it was a little overwhelming at first. But hey, it’s OMEGA, so you know it’s going to be quality, and the price wasn’t too crazy compared to some other luxury watches.
Making the Decision
- Decided to go for the sapphire crystal version of the Moonwatch.
- Felt good about the decision, even though it was a bit of a splurge.
After weighing everything, I decided to go for it. I mean, it’s the Moonwatch, right? It’s a classic. And the sapphire crystal just felt a little more special to me, even if it was a bit more expensive. Plus, being able to see that Caliber 3861 movement through the back was a huge selling point for me.
So yeah, that’s how I ended up getting myself a new OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch today. It was a bit of an impulse buy, but I don’t regret it one bit. It’s a beautiful watch, and I can’t wait to start wearing it.
