So, I’ve been on this kick lately, trying to find the perfect fake Rolex GMT-Master II with the “Pepsi” bezel, you know, the one with the red and blue. It’s a classic, right? But the real deal? Way out of my budget. We’re talking anywhere from $11,000 to a whopping $100,000!
I started digging around, just browsing different online stores, trying to get a feel for what’s out there. I read up a bit on the history of this watch. Apparently, the one everybody wants is the ref. 126710BLRO. Fake watchmakers have been trying to copy this thing for decades, and they’re getting better at it, which is good news for folks like me.
First I learned that there was an older model 116710 LN with a painted GMT hand and aftermarket bezel, I think they made some adjustments to the bezel and now it is called 126710. I am not very professional, but I think so.
Then I looked at a lot of pictures and videos of fakes, trying to spot the differences. I learned some key things to watch out for, the details on the bezel, the color of the GMT hand, you name it. There are even some forums where people share tips on how to tell a fake from a real one.
I finally settled on a few online stores that seemed legit. They had a bunch of different versions, some cheaper, some more expensive, I guess you get what you pay for, right? It’s like with everything else. I decided to go with one that looked pretty darn good in the photos. I mean, for the price, I figured it was worth a shot.
After placing my order, I waited for the package to arrive. Then, I got the watch. I carefully inspected it.
- First, I checked the water resistance, it was surprisingly good, it can be used for swimming but not deep diving, which is already very good for me, after all, I do not often dive.
- Then I checked the accuracy of the time, it was about -2 seconds per day, which was also a surprise to me.
- The last and most important point is that the bezel is a full black ceramic bezel, which is very similar to the original, and the color of the dial is also my favorite green. This is already a very good imitation for me.
All in all, I’m pretty happy with my purchase. It’s not a real Rolex, obviously, but it looks great on my wrist, and it scratches that itch for a Pepsi bezel GMT-Master II. Plus, I saved a ton of money! I’d definitely recommend checking out these online stores if you’re in the market for a good fake.
