Okay, so, I’ve been totally obsessed with the Prada Re-Edition 2005 bag lately. It’s just so classic and chic, you know? But the price tag? Ouch. So I thought, why not try to make my own? Challenge accepted!

First things first, I hit the internet. I spent hours browsing pictures, trying to get a feel for the bag’s shape, size, and details. I mean, this bag is based on one of the most iconic mini hobo bags from the brand archives, I gotta do it right. The official Prada website was super helpful, of course. It was also interesting to learn that the Re-Edition line actually includes versions from 2005 and 2000. I’m aiming for the 2005 one, with that cool adjustable strap and the little coin purse attached, it’s just adorable.

Next, I needed to figure out the materials. I knew the original was made of nylon, so I started searching for similar fabrics. It had to be durable, but also have that slightly shiny look. I ended up going to a local fabric store and, let me tell you, it was overwhelming! So many different types of nylon. But after feeling a bunch of them, I found one that I thought would work perfectly.

Then came the hardware. The zipper, the rings, the little Prada logo plaque. That was tricky. I couldn’t find exact replicas, obviously, so I had to get creative. I found some similar-looking zippers and rings online, I hunted through my old bags for spare parts, and found a few things I could repurpose. I thought about the adjustable strap, and I was like, “Where am I gonna find that?” Turns out, a lot of old camera straps have a similar design, so I grabbed one of those. I even found a similar looking coin purse in my closet!

Sewing Time!

Now for the fun part – actually making the bag. This is where things got a little… messy. I dusted off my old sewing machine, which I haven’t used in ages, and got to work. First, I had to cut out the fabric pieces. I made a rough pattern based on the dimensions I found online, and then carefully cut out the nylon.

Sewing the pieces together was definitely a challenge. Nylon can be slippery, and it was hard to get the seams straight. There was a lot of ripping out stitches and starting over. But slowly but surely, the bag started to take shape.

  • First, I sewed the main body of the bag.
  • Then, I attached the zipper.
  • Next, I worked on the strap, which was probably the most complicated part.
  • Finally, I added the little coin purse and the hardware.

It took me a few days of working on and off, but I finally finished it! It’s definitely not perfect, and it doesn’t look exactly like the real Prada Re-Edition 2005, but you know what? I’m pretty darn proud of it. It definitely captures the vibe of the original, and it was so much fun to make. Plus, I saved a ton of money! Who knows, maybe I’ll try making the 2000 version next. What do you guys think?
