Okay, so I’ve been eyeing this PRADA Re-Edition 1995 Chaine Re-Nylon Mini-Bag for a while now. It’s a classic, right? But the price tag on the official store? Ouch. So, I thought, why not try to remake it myself? It looked simple enough, I mean it’s just a mini bag.
First, I had to find the right materials. I spent hours browsing online, finally, I found this fabric that looked and felt just like the Re-Nylon they use. And then, the chain! It had to be the perfect weight and have that specific chunky look. That was surprisingly hard to find, but after hitting up a bunch of different craft stores, I found a chain that was pretty darn close.
I started by carefully examining the pictures online, trying to get a feel for the dimensions and how it was put together. There are so many pictures of this bag that finding a good one was easy. I sketched out a rough pattern on some old paper, then cut out a test version from some scrap fabric I had lying around.
The first try was, well, a bit of a disaster. It was wonky, the proportions were all wrong, and it just looked… sad. But hey, that’s part of the process. I went back to the drawing board, tweaked the pattern, and tried again. This time it was looking a bit better, but still not quite right. I had to adjust the pattern maybe five or six times before I was finally happy with the shape and size. It took a long time, but I was finally happy with the result.
Next up, sewing! I dusted off my old sewing machine (which I haven’t used in ages) and got to work. Sewing the Re-Nylon fabric was a bit tricky. It’s pretty slippery, so I had to use a bunch of pins to keep it in place. Slowly but surely, the bag started to take shape.
The chain was the next hurdle. I had to figure out how to attach it to the bag in a way that looked neat and secure. I looked up pictures online again. After a few failed attempts and some colorful language, I managed to get it attached. It wasn’t perfect, but it was solid.
Finally, the moment of truth! I added the zipper and the little PRADA logo (which I found online and printed onto fabric), and… it actually looked pretty good!
- Material Search: Scouring online stores and local shops for Re-Nylon fabric and a suitable chain.
- Pattern Making: Studying images, sketching, and creating multiple test patterns from scrap fabric.
- Sewing: Using a sewing machine to assemble the bag, dealing with the slippery Re-Nylon fabric.
- Chain Attachment: Figuring out a secure and aesthetically pleasing way to attach the chain.
- Finishing Touches: Adding the zipper and a printed PRADA logo to complete the look.
The Outcome
It’s definitely not an exact replica, but it’s pretty close. The chain is the biggest difference I can see. And honestly, I’m really proud of it! I mean, I made a bag, people! A bag that looks like a PRADA bag! It’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and I learned a lot in the process. I even found an old PRADA bag charm that I could use for the new bag, and it looks amazing. Plus, I saved a ton of money, which is always a good thing. Would I do it again? Maybe. It was a lot of work, but it was also a lot of fun.
