Okay, here is my experience sharing about how I remade the Yves Saint Laurent YSL LE CARRé SATCHEL BAG:
So I’ve been eyeing this YSL LE CARRé SATCHEL BAG for a while now. It’s such a classic, you know? But the price tag? Ouch. It’s way out of my budget. But hey, I’m not one to give up easily. I figured, why not try to make one myself? I mean, how hard could it be, right?
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to gather some materials. I already had some leather scraps lying around from previous projects, so that was a good start. I also needed some hardware, like buckles and clasps. I found some decent ones at a local craft store. Nothing fancy, but they’ll do the job.
Next up, the pattern. I couldn’t find an exact pattern for this bag online, so I had to get creative. I spent hours studying pictures of the bag, trying to figure out the dimensions and how it was all put together. I sketched out a rough pattern on some paper, making adjustments here and there until it looked somewhat like the real deal.
The Fun Part
Now for the fun part – actually making the bag! I started by cutting out the leather pieces according to my pattern. Then, I started stitching them together. This took a while, I won’t lie. My fingers were definitely sore by the end of it. But seeing the bag slowly take shape was so satisfying. It’s like watching your creation come to life, piece by piece.
I used a basic saddle stitch, which is pretty strong and looks quite nice. I also added a lining to the inside of the bag, just to make it a bit more polished. I used a soft cotton fabric that I had lying around. Sewing the lining in was a bit tricky, but I managed it somehow.
Attaching the hardware was the final step. I carefully marked where the buckles and clasps should go, and then used a leather punch to make the holes. Then, I secured the hardware in place with some rivets. It wasn’t the easiest thing to do, but I got there in the end. This is the part where I might have said a few choice words, but hey, it’s all part of the process, right?
The Result
And there you have it! My very own, handmade version of the YSL LE CARRé SATCHEL BAG. It’s not perfect, of course. There are a few wonky stitches here and there, and the leather isn’t exactly top-notch. But you know what? I’m still really proud of it. It’s unique, it’s mine, and it didn’t cost me an arm and a leg.
Sure, it might not be the real deal, but it’s close enough for me. Plus, I had a blast making it. It was a fun challenge, and I learned a lot along the way. Who knows, maybe I’ll even try to make another one someday. But for now, I’m just going to enjoy carrying around my new bag.
