Alright, guys, gather around, gather around! Today, I’m gonna talk about something really cool I did – I tried to remake a Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001, that fancy watch everyone’s been talking about. You know, the one with that “Clous de Paris” thing. I saw it, I liked it, I wanted it, but, you know, it costs a fortune. So, I thought, why not try to make it myself?
First, I did some digging. These Patek Philippe folks, they’ve been making watches for, like, forever. Over 180 years! That’s way before my time. Anyway, I learned that this Calatrava 6119R-001 is special. It’s got this manual winding thing, and they call it caliber 30-255 PS. Whatever that means. And it can run for 65 hours without winding. Not bad, not bad.
Get the Materials
Next step, I gotta find parts that look like the real deal. I looked around, found some watch movements that kinda look similar. Then I got some rose gold-colored metal. It’s not real rose gold, but it looks close enough. 39mm, just like the real one. Gotta get that size right. And I got this special tool to make that “Clous de Paris” pattern on the bezel, just like the one Patek Philippe has.
Assembly Process
Putting it all together was tricky. I mean, I’m no watchmaker, but I’ve messed around with watches before. I started with the movement, putting the hands on, carefully, very carefully. Then I made the case, put the crystal on, and then the most challenging part – that bezel with the “Clous de Paris” thing. Took me a few tries, messed up a couple of times, but I finally got it to look decent.
Final Touches
Once it was all together, I polished it up. Made it shine. It’s not perfect, not like the real Patek Philippe, but hey, I made it! It’s got that classic Calatrava look, that round case, that simple dial. And you know what? It actually tells time! I put it on a nice leather strap, and I’ve been wearing it around. People ask me about it, and I just smile and say, “Yeah, it’s a custom.”
So, there you have it, my little adventure in trying to remake a Patek Philippe Calatrava. It was a fun project, learned a lot, and now I got a pretty cool watch to show for it. Maybe not a real Patek Philippe, but it’s mine, and I’m proud of it.
- Started with research: Learned about the watch’s history and features.
- Gathered materials: Found similar-looking parts and tools.
- Assembled the watch: Carefully put together the movement, case, and bezel.
- Added finishing touches: Polished the watch and attached a strap.
- Enjoyed the result: Wearing the watch and sharing the story.
And that’s all, just my little story, hope you guys like it.
