Okay, so a while ago, I got this idea to remake the Prada Re-Edition 2005 bag. You know, the one inspired by that iconic mini hobo style? Yeah, that one. I saw it online, and I just thought, “I bet I could make something like that.” So, I started looking around for some quotes, just to get an idea of the price and what people were saying about it.
I hopped on The RealReal, since it’s like the go-to place for luxury stuff, and I figured they’d have some info. I mean, they sell all sorts of authenticated stuff, sometimes at a pretty good discount. I wasn’t really planning to buy one, though. I just wanted to see how much it would cost to make one myself.
I spent a good amount of time browsing around, checking out different versions of the bag. Some were in leather, some in other materials. I even started looking up tips on how to get started. I stumbled upon random articles, even one about reading, I think it’s called “How To Get Out of a Reading Slump” or something, I saved it for later since I need it, but it’s not really related to what I wanted to do now. I also found some build your own car thing on a car website, which, again, had nothing to do with bags, but hey, it was interesting.
Anyway, after a lot of digging, I finally got a decent idea of what I was getting into. I made a list of materials I’d need, and started looking up where to get them. I wanted to make it as close to the original as possible, but obviously, I wasn’t about to spend a fortune on it. I mean, the whole point was to see if I could make a decent replica without breaking the bank, right?
The actual make it happen part
I spent the next few weeks gathering all the stuff I needed. I went to a bunch of different stores, both online and in person. It was kind of a hassle, but also fun, in a way. Like a treasure hunt, almost. Some things were easy to find, others, not so much. I even had to order some stuff from overseas, which took forever to arrive. Patience is a virtue, they say.
Once I had everything, I cleared out a space in my place and set up a little work station. I laid out all my tools and materials, took a deep breath, and just started. It was slow going at first. I had to figure out a lot of things as I went. There were moments when I felt like giving up, but I kept pushing. I mean, I’d already spent all this time and effort, I couldn’t just quit now, right?
- I used some leather I found, it felt pretty good.
- Then came the sewing, which was a whole other challenge. I’m no expert, that’s for sure.
- But I took my time, followed some tutorials I found online, and eventually, I started to get the hang of it.
After many, many hours of work, and a few mistakes along the way, I finally finished it. It wasn’t perfect, but I was pretty darn proud of it. It looked a lot like the real Prada bag, at least to me. And you know what? It felt amazing to know that I made it myself, with my own two hands. Plus I got a 289 engine 2 barrel car to work on, it’s just sitting there and I think it’ll be fun to make it run again. So yeah, that was my Prada Re-Edition 2005 remake adventure. Pretty cool, huh?
