So, I saw this Prada Galleria bag online the other day, the big one, the Large Saffiano Leather one. You know the type, it’s all over their official online store. Looks real fancy, costs a pretty penny too. Got me thinking, could I maybe try and make one myself? A little DIY project, you know?

I did some digging around, looking at pictures and stuff. This “Saffiano” leather, it’s got this cross-hatch pattern thing going on, seems kinda tough. And that triangle Prada logo, it’s everywhere. Figured it wouldn’t be a walk in the park, but why not give it a shot?

Getting Started

First things first, I needed materials. I found some leather that looked similar to Saffiano, not the real deal, of course, but close enough for a first try. I measured and cut the leather to match the size of the bag, it’s pretty big you know. I also got some sturdy fabric for the inside lining, zipper, and metal pieces for the handles and that all-important logo.

Putting It Together

  • Sewing the leather was a whole different beast, let me tell you. My little sewing machine was struggling. I broke a few needles. Took me way longer than I thought it would.
  • Then came the lining, which was a bit easier. I did add some inside pockets, just like the real thing.
  • Next up, the zipper, had to make sure that was in there real good, don’t want your stuff falling out.
  • The handles were a bit tricky, getting them attached just right, so they wouldn’t fall off. I think I got it okay.
  • Finally, I tried to make a fake Prada logo. I used the metal pieces I got, it kinda looks like the real one, but not exactly.

It took a good while, a lot of trial and error, some messed up bits of leather, but I finally put something together. It kinda looked like the Large Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag, at least from far away. I learned a lot doing this, especially about working with that tough leather. It was a fun project, might try it again sometime, maybe with a different bag.

This was a tough one, but I did it. It’s not perfect, but it’s my remake of a Prada Galleria, and I’m kinda proud of it.
