Okay, so I saw this Prada Re-Edition 2000 bag at the specialty store the other day, and I was like, “I gotta have it!” But then I saw the price tag, and I was like, “Yeah, maybe not.” But that bag was calling my name, you know? So I decided, “I’m gonna remake this thing myself!”
First things first, I needed to do some recon. I went back to the store and took a ton of pictures of the bag from every angle. I even pretended to be super interested, asking the sales associate all sorts of questions about the materials and stuff, just to get a closer look. I probably looked like a crazy person, but it was worth it.
Then, the hunt for materials began. I wanted to make it out of fabric. This bag is pretty famous because it uses soft terry cloth. I tried all the online stores for the fabric, which is a total headache.
The main body of the bag was the first challenge. It’s like this soft terry cloth material, super trendy right now. I hit up every fabric store in town, feeling up every bolt of fabric that looked even remotely close.
I found the fabric that was the best match. The texture was spot on, even though the color was a bit off. I also grabbed some matching thread, a zipper, and some interfacing to give the bag a bit of structure.
Next up, the straps. The original bag had these leather straps, which I’m not really a fan of. I found some sturdy cotton webbing in a similar color that I thought would work great. Plus, it would make the bag more casual, which is more my style.
The lining was a bit of a mystery. I couldn’t really see it in the store, so I just picked a fun, patterned cotton fabric that I thought would look cool. It’s my little secret on the inside!
- Main Fabric: Soft terry cloth in a close-enough color.
- Straps: Cotton webbing.
- Lining: Fun patterned cotton fabric.
- Hardware: Zipper and some metal rings for the strap attachments.
Here’s a rundown of the materials I ended up using:
Once I had all my materials, it was time to get down to business. I spent hours studying those photos I took, trying to figure out the pattern. I sketched out the different pieces on some old wrapping paper, and after a few (okay, maybe more than a few) attempts, I finally had a pattern that I thought would work.
Cutting the fabric was nerve-wracking. I double-checked every measurement, took a deep breath, and started snipping.
Sewing it all together was a whole other adventure. My sewing machine and I had a love-hate relationship during this project, but we got through it. I had to redo a few seams here and there, but eventually, it started to look like a real bag!
The moment of truth came when I turned the bag right side out. And you know what? It actually looked pretty good! Sure, it wasn’t exactly like the original Prada bag, but it was close enough, and it had my own personal touch.
I’ve been using my homemade Re-Edition 2000 bag for a few weeks now, and I’m really happy with it. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and I made it myself. Plus, I saved a ton of money, which is always a win!
