Okay, so I saw this Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag at the official flagship store, and I just had to try and remake it. It looked so classy and chic! I’m no expert, but I thought, why not give it a shot?

First, I studied the bag in the store. I looked at it really carefully, I took some pictures, and I tried to memorize all the details. The leather, the stitching, the hardware – everything. It’s made of this Saffiano leather, which has a cool cross-hatch texture. I found a similar-looking leather at a local craft store. Not exactly the same, but close enough, I guess.

Getting Started

I started by making a pattern. I sketched out the shape of the bag based on my photos and measurements. It was pretty tricky, to be honest. I had to redo the pattern a few times to get it right. Then, I cut out the leather pieces. Cutting Saffiano leather is a bit of a pain because it’s pretty stiff.

Putting It Together

  • Sewing was the hardest part. I don’t have an industrial sewing machine, so I used my regular one. It was tough getting through the thick leather. I broke a few needles along the way, whoops!
  • I had to figure out how to attach the handles and the little metal feet. I watched some videos online and got some tips from a friend who knows about leatherwork. The metal parts are not the best quality, but they kinda look like the real thing from afar.
  • Adding the Prada logo was a challenge. I couldn’t find an exact replica, so I improvised. I got some metal letters from the craft store and arranged them to spell out “PRADA”. It’s not perfect, but it kinda works.

The Final Result

After a lot of trial and error, I finally finished the bag! It’s definitely not a perfect replica, but I’m pretty proud of it. It looks somewhat similar to the real Prada Galleria, at least from a distance. The leather is a bit different, and the stitching isn’t as neat, but hey, I made it myself!

It was a fun project, and I learned a lot about bag making. I think with more practice, I could get better at it. Maybe one day I’ll be able to make a replica that’s even closer to the original. But for now, I’m happy with my handmade “Prada” bag!
