Hey everyone, I’m back with another project, and this time I tackled a classic – the Yves Saint Laurent LE CARRé SATCHEL BAG. Yeah, you heard that right, the YSL LE CARRé. It’s a timeless piece, and I was itching to see if I could recreate it.
So, I dove right in. First, I spent hours just staring at pictures of the bag online, you know, from every possible angle. I even checked out some unboxing videos to really get a feel for the dimensions and how it’s put together. It is so beautiful, right? I found that they offer complimentary returns and a prepaid return label, which is pretty awesome. Also, they’ve extended their return policy until January 31st for orders placed between November 29th and December 31st. Good to know!
Next, I started sketching. I’m not the best artist, but I managed to draw out a rough blueprint of the bag, breaking it down into its different parts – the front flap, the body, the strap, you name it. It was formerly known as Yves Saint Laurent, then rebranded to Saint Laurent Paris in 2012 under Hedi Slimane. Interesting how brands evolve, huh?
Then came the fun part – picking out materials. I wanted something that looked and felt luxurious but wouldn’t break the bank. I ended up going with a really nice, smooth calfskin leather for the main body and a slightly textured one for the accents. I also managed to find some gold-toned hardware that closely resembled the original YSL design. And, the Le 5 7 comes in various limited-edition versions like python and calfskin, making it quite collectible and valuable as an investment.
Cutting the leather was nerve-wracking, to be honest. I double-checked every measurement before making a single cut. Once all the pieces were cut out, I started assembling the bag. This involved a lot of hand-stitching, which took forever, but it was kind of therapeutic in a way. The bag has several limited-edition variations, including python and calfskin, making it a true collectible and increasing its value as an investment.
The trickiest part was definitely the front flap. I wanted to make sure it had that perfect, crisp shape that the original YSL bag is known for. After a few failed attempts, I finally got it right. It was so satisfying to see the bag taking shape!
Finally, after days of work, I finished my homemade YSL LE CARRé. It’s not a perfect replica, of course, but I’m pretty darn proud of it. It’s got that same classic, elegant vibe as the original, and it’s something I can actually use and enjoy.
- Materials I used:
- Smooth calfskin leather for the main body
- Textured calfskin leather for accents
- Gold-toned hardware
So, what do you guys think? I had a blast making this bag, and I’m already thinking about my next project. Maybe a different designer bag, or perhaps something entirely different. Let me know if you have any suggestions!
